3 Best Games of The Week - 34 E-mail
Written by WGM Raluca Sgîrcea, IM Renier Castellanos

carlsenThe first game we selected for this week’s edition of the 3 best games was played in the super-strong Norway Chess tournament and features an instructive win of the World Champion Magnus Carlsen over Ukrainian GM Pavel Eljanov.

Even though the game was for most of the time equal, Carlsen kept putting pressure on his opponent by exploiting the weakness of the light squares until black finally went wrong and lost the game.

Game 1:

The next two games see the young Russian GM Sanan Sjugirov on the losing side in the Russian Team Championship. Here, GM Ian Nepomniachtchi shows great preparation with the white pieces and executes a greek-gift sacrifice in a rather atypical position, but one that leads, nevertheless, to great advantage.

Game 2:

We chose the last game for the strategy lesson given by the former World Champion Vladimir Kramnik in a middlegame with opposite colored bishops. If you want to review the guidelines ones should follow in such positions, make sure to check out our previous article on this subject!

Game 3:

If you want to improve your chess level, you need to have a clear study plan. If you aim for a dramatic improvement at chess you need to work on all of the elements of the game in a systematic way:

  • tactics
  • positional play
  • attacking skills
  • endgame technique
  • classical games analysis
  • psychological preparation
  • and much more

That seems to be like a lot of things, and that is. But no worries, we have made it easy for you. Our comprehensive training course covers it all and much more. Sign up for 21 Day Training right now!
