Viswanathan Anand became India’s first GM in 1988. He held FIDE World Championship Title from 2000 to 2002 and became Undisputed Champion in 2007. Vishy Anand then defended title 3 times: against Vladimir Kramnik, Vaselin Topalov and Boris Gelfand. In 2013 he lost the title to Norwegian prodigy Magnus Carlsen.
