About the Authors:

GM Marian Petrov [FIDE 2537]

is an accomplished professional chess coach, theorist, and Bulgarian champion in 2002 and 2017, as well as a winner of many open tournaments around the world. Also a FIDE trainer and coach of the team of Wales at the last Olympiad in Baku in 2016. He graduated from the National Sports Academy in Sofia, Bulgaria with a Bachelor’s degree in Chess Pedagogy, a four-year undergraduate program designed to prepare top-level chess trainers.

IM Milovan Ratkovic [FIDE 2411]

is a Serbian International Master and chess coach. Some of his top students were able to reach 2400 and 2300 Elo respectively. IM Ratkovic is an active tournament player and one of his near-future goals is to obtain the Grandmaster title.

IM Zaur Tekeyev [FIDE 2409]

is a FIDE Master who recently became an International Master. Zaur has been coaching chess players of different ages and levels for many years. As a player, he has won multiple tournaments, one of the best results being the 1st place in the Russian National Students’ Chess League Championship (Moscow Open, 2017). Zaur is also a big online blitz player, with an online rating of over 2800.

IM Marcin Sieciechowicz [FIDE 2462]

won many medals in the Polish junior chess championship, among which the most important is the gold medal in the Polish junior chess championship in classical chess won in 2010 (under 18). He made two of his IM norms before reaching 18, and the last in 2010, and became International Master just after his 18th birthday. He has been competing three times in the Junior European chess championship (2004, 2007, 2008) and once in World junior chess championship (2010). He has two GM norms, made in 2010 and 2013, and his highest rating was 2462. He has been playing French Defense for 20 years and has a couple of wins in this opening with the players rated 2600+.

GM Alex Fier [FIDE 2653]

is a Brazilian chess grandmaster. He competed in the FIDE World Cup in 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, and 2017. Fier won five gold medals at the Pan American Youth Chess Festival: in the Under 10 division in 1996 and 1997, the Under 12 in 2000, the Under 14 in 2002, and Under 18 in 2005. He also won the South American Junior Championship in 2006, 2008, and 2009. Alex is also a professional chess coach and was ranked as highly as #70 in the World.

GM Homayoon Toufighi [FIDE 2501]

is an Iranian chess grandmaster, winner of the Asian Championship U18, bronze medalist of the Asian Team Championship, winner of the Turkmenistan Open, and national rapid and blitz Champion. He is an active chess player and a full-time coach.

GM Krisztian Szabo [2564 FIDE]

is a Hungarian Grandmaster. He has won multiple Hungarian National Championships, European Youth Championship, and World Youth Championship (Silver) and has represented his country as part of the adult national team.

GM Szabo is a celebrated coach, he is second to Richard Rapport, he was coaching Aryan Chopra (Grandmaster at 14) and many International Masters. He has also worked extensively with Peter Leko and Judit Polgar, having spent around 6 years with each of them.

GM Bryan Smith [FIDE 2503]

is an American Grandmaster and chess coach. GM Smith has won many international tournaments including Limpedea Cup (Romania), Citta di Erba (Italy), Easter International (Serbia), Philadelphia International, National Chess Congress, US Masters, etc.
