Aron Nimzowitsch was one of the deepest thinkers of the 20th century. He established chess concepts and built a whole theory of play from them. The Classical way of thinking in chess was pioneered by Steinitz and preached by Tarrasch.  After the mid-1910s several chess masters began to play a different brand of chess.
