Today we want to give you some practice material to work with. Tactics is something that most chess players cannot get enough of. Solving hard chess problems is something that might make a difference in your games between a draw and a lose or a draw and a win. Try solving the following 5 problems and don’t forget to comment with your solutions.

Problem 1: Y. Muller, Nationaltidende, 1918

problem 1

Problem 2: Y. Kumpe, Natal Mercury, 1922

problem 2

Problem 3: K. Stockman, Svenska Dagbladet, 1920

problem 3

White to move and mate in 3

Problem 4: V. Goltcuzen, Leipziger Tageblatt, 1923

Note: Tactics is no doubt a very important part of chess. If you want to improve your general chess level simply working on tactics is not enough. If you aim for a dramatic improvement at chess you need to work on all of the elements of the game in a systematic way:

  • tactics
  • positional play
  • attacking skills
  • endgame technique
  • classical games analysis
  • psychological preparation
  • and much more

That seems to be like a lot of things, and that is. But no worries, we have made it easy for you. Our comprehensive training course covers it all and much more. Sign up for 21 Day Training right now!

Piroki2003:
The solutions are right. Do you even know chess rules ? What do you mean ‘black king moves up’ ?
Piroki:
If B: c5 W2: Qd4+ B2: Kf3. Only move W3: Qe3 checkmate
Juarez:
1 Rg8 Ka2 and?
Sri Aadarsh:
Md Akter,if black responds with c5.then king takes c7 would be played by white leading to the only move by black king f4 and then it would be mated by the move queen g4c5, k*c7,kf4,qg4#
...:
The solutions are totally wrong, all of them require help of the black player to lose in 3. For example, no. 5. The real solution should be knight takes pawn check, queen takes knight ( no other possibilities), king takes queen, black king moves up ( no other possibilities), rook to h4 - mate.
Md Akter:
Please explain problem 3:If black reply with e5 instead of c5 then how it is possible mate in 3 moves. 1.Bh3,e5 2.Qe2+ or Qg4+,Kd5 3.???????ThanksMd Akter
